In the Department of Economics & Public Policy, we investigate a diverse range of topics including: the effect of government climate change policies on business; the contribution of knowledge assets to economic growth; determining fairness and value in the telecommunications industry; and how to improve the quality of service in the public sector. We have a particular focus in health economics and policy, studying incentives for individuals and health organisations. The Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility (AIReF) is an Independent Administrative Authority whose purpose is to oversee the sustainability of public finances as a means for ensuring the economic growth and well-being of Spanish society in the medium and long-term. The Public Spending Evaluation Division within AIReF performs evaluations of public spending at the request of any Spanish General Government sub-sector. We bring academic rigor and objectivity to the public policy evaluation and evidence-based decision making, offering an excellent environment for working and participating in research analyses of public relevance. AIReF is a young public institution which began operating in 2014, but in just a few years it has built a reputation for objectivity, independence and transparency in its analyses and work.

It is a politically independent registered charity aiming to bridge the gap between academia and the wider public.
